A friend of mine on Twitter asked me what would be a good weapon and armor set for gunning down Kushala Daora.  I replied with a heavy bowgun capable of loading either Thunder Shot, Poison, or Pierce — all of the above being optimal (but hard to come by at low rank).  I’ve been meaning to go after this elder dragon ever since I started playing around with the bow, as his armor set has Focus (an extremely helpful skill for bow users).  For this reason I decided I would just record a video.

Here is my gear set up:

You may notice I get kicked around a lot early on, that is because I am recklessly trying to keep the beast poisoned which requires you to keep the status change pressure going.  The heavy recoil of the Poison 2 shots get me carted unfortunately, but I still manage to pull off three poisons which is probably the limit for one Kushala run.  It should be noted that this was the second time I fought him, meaning I had already repelled him once.  The first time I fought him I obviously broke his horn, which negates his wind aura for the remainder or his angry, metallic life.  When fighting him for the first time the aura can be troublesome, but keeping him poisoned and maintaining a good distance should result in basically the same outcome as in this video.

As I mentioned in the most recent episode of the podcast, I’ve been experimenting with the bow in Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.  It’s a very interesting weapon, and while I’m still a novice I was having so much fun hunting dragons with it I decided to record a quick video!  My most important takeaway from this hunt is that from now on, I am bringing Mega Dash Juice…  Running out of stamina with a Rathalos staring you in the face is not a good feeling.  If you guys are interested in seeing more random videos like this let me know and I can upload more!
